Which compromise.
Thousands of them. Made by people. Over years.
IV — People
An engineer chose a load path.
An architect chose a detail.
A specifier chose a product.
A contractor chose a substitution.
Someone approved it.
V — The story
Every one of those decisions had a reason.
Together, those reasons are the story of the building.
We walk past that story every day.
We almost never see it.
